Existing Roof System & Leak Conditions
The roof system at Banks Primary School consists of a tar & coal tar pitch roof with gravel embedment, a system commonly found on older institutional and school buildings throughout Alabama.
Upon notification from the school system, our team responded to locate and isolate the leak areas responsible for water intrusion into the facility.
Repair Methodology & Scope of Work
Due to the gravel-surfaced nature of the roof system, proper preparation was required
before repairs could be performed.
Work Completed On Site:
•Leak source identification based on reported interior conditions
•Spudding and removal of embedded gravel in designated repair areas
•Preparation of the substrate for membrane adhesion
•Installation of a new base sheet
•Installation of a torch-applied cap sheet to fully encapsulate the repair area
•Restoration of watertight integrity at the repaired section
This repair method was selected to remain compatible with the existing coal tar pitch roofing system while providing long-term durability.
Roof-to-Wall Flashing Repairs
As part of the same service visit, Restoration Commercial Roofing Services completed
additional waterproofing work at a roof-to-wall flashing transition.
Flashing Repair Details:
•Application of Tropical Suprema 9400 silicone mastic
•Used to seal and reinforce vulnerable flashing areas
•Repair method was reviewed and approved by Pike County School Systems
•Designed to prevent moisture intrusion at vertical termination points
This solution provided a code-appropriate and system-compatible repair without requiring
extensive tear-off.
